“Do not get sucked in to having half price MOT at

Written on: 09/03/2011

Do not get sucked in to having half price MOT at Halfords unless you have plenty of time to get the car repaired somewhere else. Even then you could be stuck with a failure. My car failed on a headlight that was not shinning in the correct direction and two loose CV boots and wiper. They wanted to charge £80 for each CV boot fitted plus about £25 for the light and a new windscreen wiper that was a reasonable £8. When I looked up the price of a CV boot online it was £15 for two, they came with a kit to put it on. I took it to my local garage that does not do MOT's he got it up on ramp and he could not believe the Halfords report as there was nothing wrong with the CV Boots. He also told me that light direction is meant to be covered by the MOT and the garage should do this for free it is their duty to. I pointed this out to Halford and he pretended he did not know anything about this change in the MOT laws. Surely this is his job to know the changes in the rules of MOT Testing. I had to chuckle inside as they pasted the car, I got a new set of wipers myself and the lovely man at my garage fitted two cable ties to the CV boots sprayed with wd40 and funily enough it passed cost me nothing. DO NOT TRUST HALFORDS AUTOCARE MOT CENTRES. I can not astress this enough.
