My wife and I been looking for good quality tailor made suits for years, we were wary about the reputation that many of the cheap tailors have in Thailand and Vietnam, and we didn't want to buy a cheap suit that wouldn't survive past a few wears. We did a lot of research and after a recommendation from a friend in Hong Kong we went to visit BMV Bespoke in Brisbane Australia.
We were asked what we were looking for, and were shown a range of fabrics. They are very helpful, just don't expect them to buzz around you the whole time you're there. For the suits in particular, we were shown the full range of fabrics and told the quality & price for each. There was no pressure to buy the more expensive fabrics, but it was ultimately what I chose. Something to note is that they do not inflate their prices like most tailors, so there is not really room for bargaining. Depending on how much you're spending, you might have a small amount taken from the total.
I ended up purchasing 3 suits and 4 shirts. My wife had two suits made, a dress and a few blouses. Quality tailoring takes time, so don't expect to be able to have quality work done overnight like the cheap & nasty tailors offer. In the end it is worth the wait and the fittings are very important.
The attention to detail is excellent. On receiving my first suit fitting after 4 weeks, the jacket appeared to me that one of the sleeves was a bit longer than the other. I could see that BMV tailors noticed at the same time I did. The measurements of the suit was spot on, but perhaps one of my arms is longer than the other. They offered to have the sleeve adjusted, but everything else was perfect. The shirt was also fantastic, with nice stiff collars and cuffs, and a good range of available options for button, pocket, collar & cuff styles etc.
At the end of the day, you get what you pay for. If you're attracted to by one of the cheap suits from a cheap "tailor" which is made overnight, you will end up with a horrible looking suit in poor fabric which will not fit you well, and will likely fall apart. Spending the additional money is well worth it. The fabric I chose for my suits was their second best (100% wool), and the suits cost me roughly AUD$650 each which was fantastic value considering the quality of fabric and tailoring. My wife is also very happy with all of her garments. Their range of suit fabrics is very good, with modern and classic styles, however if you have something very specific in mind they may not stock it.
I cannot recommend these guys enough. If you're after a quality suit for a good price, these guys are well worth a visit. Just make sure you have patience and be prepared to have 2 or 3 fittings to get your garments just right. Certainly they also have branded clothes by, Ermenegildo Zegna, Dormeuil, Holland & Sherry, Scabal, Loro Piana and many more...I am confident my suits and shirts will last , but I will be sure to order more from "BMV Bespoke Tailors" in future, as their service, quality and passion is top notch.
