Have just returned from hiring a car from Avis at Lanzarote airport. On going to the collection desk their agent went overboard about "excess cover" until I told her that I had annual cover.
We picked up the the car in a darkish area and drove 20 miles to our hotel.
On getting out my wife said there is damage to the valance under the front bumper on the passenger side and we assumed it was there when we collected the car. What a mistake we made in not checking the car in the airport.
The damage was not excessive.
On returning to the airport we were greeted by the same surly representative, gave her the keys and she said wait while she checked the car. When she returned boy were we treated rudely.
I said I had not hit anything and I am saying that honestly.
She said "you sign contract, you damage car, you pay and wait for it - claim when you are back in UK.
On returning to the airport desk I said nothing about having excess cover.
They charged us 394 euros.
We hire cars abroad 3/4 times a year and the only other time we had a problem like this was in Majorca 5 years ago and you have guessed it -
