“Britz Perth to Broome WA 2013”

We were a group of 7 adults and hired 4 Britz Motor Homes to drive from Perth to Broome.
Six of us had hired from Britz in Perth previously and although we had a few problems in our earlier trip it was decided to hire from them again for this adventure.
The pick up / check in procedure had not improved and apart from being chaotic, the office did not open until 10am on Saturday morning so by the time you get through the formalities of check in you will lose half of your first days hire.
The following is a list of the problems we encountered during our two week trip in these four vehicles.
1.No Wine glasses in any of the vehicles.
2.Faulty house battery meaning no water or lights in one vehicle.
3.Toilet basin not draining on three of the vehicles.
4.No vehicle instructions / USB stick one vehicle.
5.The Toilet chemicals supplied and charged extra for made the toilets so smelly they were almost unusable until we purchased different chemicals from RV shop, magically the smell dissapeared.
6.Main roof top vent blew off one vehicle.
7.Half of the acylic panel on one door blew off 1 vehicle.
8.One waste water valve was taped into place and fell off after first use.
9.One waste water valve cable did not have a handle so could not be operated correctly.
10.All water hoses and waste hoses were too short to use in most of the caravan parks we stayed in.
11.Draws / cupboards would not lock shut and to be taken out when traveling
12.Water leaked into the cabin through the Antenna mounting and various other points when raining.
13.Only two of the four Televisions could be tuned in to receive a picture.
14.Bottom rail in fridge door was missing so could not use that shelf.
15.Microwave did not work 1 vehicle.
16.The vehicle you select and book is not necessarily the vehicle you will receive when you go to pick up the vehicle.

When we called to advise of our problems the staff at Britz were all very helpful and arranged for repairs along our route however if the vehicles had been properly inspected / tested before we started, the delays and inconvenience caused during our holiday would have been avoided.

When we voiced our concerns with the problems we had experienced the staff were sympathetic and said the reporting system was thorough and would result in close scrutiny of the issuing depot (Perth), this was exactly the same reply we received after our last hire (Perth to Adelaide) a couple of years earlier.
We were offered a cash rebate to compensate for the problems but when I advised that I would be making an adverse report of our experiences and making a formal complaint to Britz I was told that if I was going to go down that path then no compensation would be paid.

It is astonishing that Britz would offer a cash compensation payment until they found out I would be letting other potential hirers know about the problems we had experienced.

What arrogance!
