After researching many travel options for our family trip to Egypt, Memphis Tours was recommended to us. We were a party of five who were looking forward to that once in a lifetime magical Egyptian experience, however wanted some help and guidance on the ground. All we can say is that we will forever be grateful to Memphis Tours for their impeccable organisation, care and hospitality from the time we arrived till the time we left. Look no further - travel with Memphis Tours in Egypt.
Have no hesitations in visiting Egypt. It's safe, the people are lovely and you will have life changing experiences. The tourist numbers are way down - which is great as we were able to be in a lot of locations by ourselves without masses of tourists (we had the whole step pyramid to ourselves and were in King Tut's tomb by ourselves). However, I hope soon that the tourists return to Egypt to boost their tourism economy.
Initial email contact was made with Bassem Saad. Bassem was extremely efficient, tailoring details to our needs and requests, making updates and changes throughout the booking process as requested and delivering an amazing itinerary that touched upon all the locations and experiences we wanted to see and do.
Being our first time to Egypt, organising our travel through Memphis was worth the process of going through airport procedures at Cairo airport alone. We were met on time, before the immigration process by Ahmed El Sayed. Ahmed helped us with obtaining our visas, getting through the immigration process and collecting our bags. A big thank you to Ahmed for being our welcoming face of Egypt and helping us through this process. The level of assistance and quality of service that Ahmed provided was a sign of everything else to come.
We were transferred to the Le Meridien Pyramids - nice hotel with our first glimpses of the pyramids. Ahmed then finalised our final payments for the tour before running us through our itinerary again and checking us into our rooms.
The following morning we were met by Ahmed Farahat, who was to be our guide for our time in Cairo and Alexandria. Ahmed was an amazing guide, extremely knowledgeable, providing assistance (even coins for the toilets) and giving us experiences that other group tours probably didn't provide (Ahmed's favourite local food specialities in local restaurants, ice creams by the mediterranean). We were lucky to have fully private tours with Ahmed which allowed us to tailor experiences just for us - we could take our time, decide between experiences he would suggest - without having to worry about a large group of travellers and trying to accommodate everyones wishes.
We traveled by overnight train to Aswan and then also on the return from Luxor to Cairo. Again, Ahmed El Sayed ensured that this was a smooth process, getting us onto the train, into our cabins and giving us instructions on procedures on the train. There was no problems with the train experience - it was rocky and bumpy, the toilets weren't great - but that's all part of the traveling experience ;-)
Upon arrival in Aswan we had a free day and night at the Aswan Movenpick hotel. Mohamed Sabry greeted us upon our arrival in Aswan and got us to the hotel. This was beautiful in itself - crossing the Nile to Elephantine Island and arriving at the hotel. The Movenpick was a nice hotel and it was great to have a free day to just relax by the pool.
The following day were were transferred to our cruise ship - the MY Alyssa. Mohamed Sabry completed the check in process for us, before we headed down to lunch where we met our next guide Mohamed Inman. Mohamed was an excellent guide who traveled with us and covered our tours throughout Aswan to Luxor. Again, Mohamed was very professional, knowledgeable and we were constantly enthralled with the stories and background he provided on all the locations we visited.
The MY Alyssa was a good ship - excellent service and excellent food. With the tourist numbers down, sometimes it felt we had the run of ship. There were times we were the only ones on the top deck, watching the sun set and the Nile scenery drifting by.
Following on from the cruise we returned to Cairo where Ahmed Farahat met us again with our trusty driver Emad Shams. Ahmed took us through the Cairo Museum and the old sites of the city, following on with a day trip to Alexandria the next day. Meeting Ahmed again was like reconnecting with an old friend. We were so happy that we were able to have Ahmed as our guide for all our Cairo/Alexandria experiences.
All good things must come to an end and wrapping up our experience was Ahmed El Sayed who again took us through the airport procedures for our flight out of Egypt.
From start to finish Memphis Tours was amazingly professional and brilliant every step of the way. Our family group of five had the best experience and one that we will constantly reflect upon for the rest of our lives.
If you are traveling to Egypt, contact Memphis Tours and make your arrangements with them. You will not be disappointed.
