Last year I had to cancel an international flight for myself & my 3 children due to my husband being laid off. The travel insurance I purchased did not cover the cancelation. United then credited me our ticket price and told me I had a year to use it, but if I was unable to do so then call back & they could extend it.
Turns out this information was incorrect. When I called for the extension I was told they could not do it. I was also told last year that the credit was for date of flight, this it turns out is also wrong. They are now telling me it was from purchase date. I am at the moment out $6100.
