I worked a placement through the Stevenage branch of Adecco in 2008-2009 and actually had no problems.
But when I needed a job and signed up again last year, standards had clearly dropped. I made it clear to them the types of work I was and wasn't interested in, I've done a lot of cleaning and catering work in the past, but want to try and get away from it as there's no future there. In the following weeks every single offer was either a cleaning or a catering vacancy, and they tried to butter me up by saying "well, it's money, isn't it?"
I recently saw a vacancy in their window for an administrator and so went in to express my interest. "You need to sign up through our website." (I think that's the first thing they say to try and turn people away). I explained I have, and that my current CV is also up there. "Oh, you need to go away and email the head of the branch, here's his email address." There was also a vacancy for a customer service assistant for an immediate start. I enquired. "Oh, that one's not active yet."
The website is also useless, I did a search for jobs through the Stevenage branch, and there were 0 results. So who's lying, the branch or the website? It's amusing that there are some kind of 'best website' awards or somesuch at the bottom of the page. Who'd they have to bribe to get those?
