“Read this before reading the complaints.”

written by scottmarshall88 on 03/04/2013

I really don't understand why some people are complaining about their mattress. Those people clearly didn't do their research because if they had, they wouldn't be whining about their purchase. As a consumer, it is your responsibility to do the research before you buy anything.

Right...

Firstly, to all the people talking about fire hazards; I haven't had a letter yet and if I do I don't think I will really care. Just do as they say, and don't smoke or have a naked flame in the room. Mine has a fire resistant tag on it so I presume its fire safe but I don't know (people lie).

Secondly, to all the people complaining about softness or dents in the mattress; that happens to all memory foam pretty quickly, especially the crappy reflex foam base ones. I did my research, so I bought a pocket sprung which is much better than a reflex foam base and is also cheaper, so don't ever think that more expensive means better because that is a big misconception. If you researched, you would know that with the 'memory foam craze', companies can charge crazy amounts for cheaper materials when they advertise it as 'high density reflex foam'. Don't be fooled by their marketing strategy.

Thirdly, to those of you moaning about the smell; if you did your research, then you would know that memory foam smells due to the chemicals in its composition and an airing period is necessary for the smell to disperse. I aired mine out for a good two to three weeks before I slept on it, by which time the smell had faded and I could barely smell it. The smell has completely dispelled now.

Fourthly, to those who are complaining about customer service etc; if you read the terms and conditions, you would have read about the return costs. Once you have used it, you can't take it back because 'Hypnia' do not offer a 'trial period'. Although they claim they do, they don't. They only offer a 14 day grace period. This is why they are a lot cheaper than other high quality memory foam brands. 'Trial periods' cost the company more money because they can't re-sell a used mattress so they have to spend money either cleaning it or scrapping it.

If everybody did their research before buying, they would know that companies like 'Memory Foam Warehouse', although cheap, do not sell 85kg/m3 (which is the highest density and the best quality). The highest they sell is 75kg/m3, which is still good but they sell it for a very high price in comparison to 'Hypnia' (when on sale prices).

Anyway enough of ranting (I could go on and on but I think there is probably a word limit). The mattress I bought was the Hypnia 7 zone double pocket sprung mattress, which has 1326 pocket springs, a 2 inch layer (2 x 1 inch) of 85kg/m3 density memory foam, topped with a 1 inch layer of 75kg/m3 natural latex (which is like memory foam, but more resilient) and finished in a breathable bamboo fabric. The delivery was fast (ordered on a Wednesday and came on the Friday) and the mattress was in perfect condition. This mattress was quick to expand unlike the reflex foam base ones, so I wasn't waiting around too long before I could try it out. The mattress was/is extremely comfy for my taste because it is firm (due to the quality high density). If you are going to pick any of the mattresses from Hypnia, then you should go for one of the pocket sprung ones, in particular the 7 zone. Do not buy a reflex foam base mattress from anywhere, always go for pocket sprung.
