The children display qualities of enterprise, resourcefulness, and sheer courage. They also learn more important qualities like taking care of each other and compassion. The descriptions of the island and the food are evocative and attractive.
The Secret Island is the best Blyton book I read as a child. I have tried to get hold of it in the library but was unsuccessful. It is un-put-down-able. My favourite parts were how the children grew all kinds of wholesome fruit and veg and put them together to make delicious meals.
