I have been dealing with 1and1 for a number of months now, and I have to say they are an appalling service. As far as I can tell, they only care about luring customers in and sucking money from existing customers. Any staff you talk to on the phone sound bored out of their minds and just don't seem to care.
If you do have a problem and do manage to get it escalated, the Admins will often close the ticket after saying it lacks further information. They will not request the information, they will just close the ticket.
With 1and1 you don't get what you pay for, you get an appalling, poor featured and generally terrible service for an over inflated price.
