For the last 4 years I have been traveling about 150 days per year on my own nickel. Booking.com has offered the most reliable, broadest, and most helpful Customer Service of the others I have tried. Agoda left me stranded at midnight in a strange country with no assistance. Hotels.com, Travelocity, Orbitz just don't offer the breadth. And when I have made a mistake that needs to be corrected, Booking.com Customer Service has also been extremely helpful in getting to resolution. Many of the hotels I book also have free cancellation up to a few days before the reservation is to begin. And the selection criterion make it much easier to get down to a specific set of hotels to decide between.
There are still some improvements that would help:
1. Show the FULL price of a hotel, similar to what US airlines are now required to do, price with ALL charges.
2. Even better, allow me to make selections in the criteria, e.g.. breakfast, wifi, parking, free cancellation and then show me the FULL price with all of the items I have selected
3. Rate the reviewers. Show me star, reasonable reviewers differentiated.
