“Irritating Service Provider”

written by on 20/02/2013

After a house move in 2011 I had no choice but to take Virgin's National ADSL2 Broadband service because fibre optic wasn't available. Prior to this I had been using NTL fibre optic broadband for 11 years.

Virgin's National Broadband service is AWFUL. Read that again...AWFUL. It barely worked at all for the first 3 months. Phone call after phone call was needed just to get the engineers to make it even remotely stable. I frequently got through to people called [name removed] who would pass me onto [name removed] ) before the line clicked dead and I had to join the queue again. Among the more creative lies I was told by the engineers, the best one was that the street lights outside my house were causing internet issues! Erm, what??? You couldn't make the BS up if you sat down for a week with all the complete volumes of BS Britannica. Today I ditched Virgin in favour of Plusnet as I now have fibre optic in my area.

Please Note: if you wish to cancel your Virgin contract early then it IS possible. Don't believe what Virgin Media's liars tell you on the phone. They are legally obliged to release you from your contract, without charge, if they cannot make the service work to an acceptable standard. Threaten them with OfCom and Virgin will either a) Fix your problem quickly or, b) Release you from their clutches.

My advice is to not choose this ghastly ISP in the first place. It stinks very bad now now and is becoming more fetid by the day.
