“I googled "Iphone Apple Support" on my Iphone 5, as I...”

written by on 17/02/2013

I googled "Iphone Apple Support" on my Iphone 5, as I was having problems syncing my photos. MyTechHelp's number came up and I failed to double-check the number. I called them, they acted like Apple, talked about Applecare, etc., and told me the Applecare on my computer was expiring soon (a lie), causing me to "give in" and buy a $149.99, 6-month 24/7 tech support subscription. I thought I was buying supplemental Applecare. They also told me it was very prudent to buy a subscription to Intego Virus Barrier X6, emphasizing the fact that there would be a rebate sent to my email after 90 days which would offset the cost of the first year's subscription. Finally, a technician kept me on the phone for 2.5 hours, trying to fix my phone issues through remote access. He couldn't fix the problem and told me someone would call me back the next day. In the middle of the call, my credit card company called me and left a message. After I was through with the "support session" I listened to the message - my card company was alerting me of fraudulent activity, and after calling them back, we cancelled the card. I will refute the charges and also file a report with the BBB. These people are blatantly misrepresenting themselves, and also impersonating an established company. How is this legally possible?!!!!!
