“Missed a full day in Maui due to United Airlines Crew”

Disappointment reigns with the airline crew that was to fly us from Des Moines, Iowa to Houston, Texas and then on to Maui, Hawaii Wednesday, January 30. Due to a winter storm coming into our area, over 35 of us that were to travel that morning booked hotel rooms the night before to make sure we made our 6:00am flight. Every single one of us made the airport in plenty of time for our flights getting up as early as 2:45 to be ready. at 6:00am. The reason? Our flight crew did not arrive on time and by the time they did arrive, flights were being held due to the storm and then we held in line to be de-iced. We were over three hours late taking off obviously missing all connecting flights to Maui.
When we arrived in Houston, we were told they had called Des Moines and had told them NOT to send us as they could not accomodate connecting flights to Maui at that time. Des Moines had sent us anyway.
Six of our group of 29 were accomodated and able to catch other flights to Maui but 23 of us were left behind being told we'd be sent to LA but would not be sent onto Maui until the following day.
Then we were told United Airlines would not comp rooms for us because Houston had been told we were late "due to the weather." Which, I guess our flight crew was late "due to the weather" but there were over 35 of us not to mention all the rest of those on our plane that had been there ready and waiting for our flight at 6:00am. And, the rest of our groups that went to Chicago flew out at 6:00. So, "due to weather" is questionable. If our flight crew would have been on time, we would have flown at 6:00am, would have made connecting flights, and would have arrived in Maui as planned.
So, 23 of us had to find rooms in LA the night of Wednesday, January 30th when we should have been arriving in Maui, Hawaii enjoying prepaid rooms and picking up rental cars.
We were given food vouchers for the airport from United but the cost of missing our flights due to the crew being late, missing a full day in Maui and then having to also pay for unexpected motel rooms and meals in LA due to our crew being late......obviously does not give us a good review for United Airlines and that's too bead because the rest of our flights were wonderful with very accomodating United personnel that were upbeat and friendly.
But, how do you make it up to 23 people who missed a full day in Maui due to a flight crew being late? And then having to pay out of pocket for a motel room and meals that in all reality United Airlines should have gladly paid for us to make it up?
Hum...

Some of our group flew out on a different flight plan leaving at 6:00am and made all connecting flights on time. 29 of us did not make our flight
