“damp, rip off, health hazard”

My family and I spent a week here last summer and it was the most depressing and uncomfortable holiday I have experienced. By day two we were trying to find alternative accommodation - too scared to complain to the owners after the tales of intimidation we had heard. We snuck in and out like criminals. The place was dirty and damp and the furniture was of a poor standard. The cooking facilities were inadequate, there were broken shelves in the kitchen cupboards and dirty cups in the cupboard. The smell of damp, which was all pervasive, was the worst aspect of the property. We bought scented candles and air freshener to try to cover this but it didn't really work. Luckily my son and I who both suffer from asthma, managed to survive the week! The bathrooms were a disgrace.
The agent we booked through (Aspects holidays) informed us a couple of weeks before we left that they were no longer letting the property and offered us some unsuitable alternatives - which I wish we had taken up - but never warned us when we said that we would book direct ( it had looked so nice on Aspects website). We got in touch with them following the holiday, but they effectively washed their hands of the whole thing, and despite promises to contact us again we have heard nothing. After the holiday we tried various routes to complain and I had just about given up when I stumbled across this page. It is probably too late for me to try to get compensation and frankly I want nothing more to do with the place, but if my review can prevent others from booked this sh*tehole then at least I will have some satisfaction.
