“Outdated software”

written by on 02/02/2013

Purchased my TV from Currys so, if there were any problems, I could return it easily (40" is very bulky to return). Read that a lot of these sets are being sold without the apps for catch up TV loaded. Had to order a wi fi dongle from Amazon and wait for that to arrive, which was a bit annoying (why not included in a "Smart TV"? The set up was fairly easy and all was great until I tried to use BBCi player, ITV player, YouTube etc. , when the programme would freeze after a few seconds. First I thought the problem was with my wi fi router so spent an hour on the phone to Virgin, who suggested I pay £100 for running a cable to the TV. However, my laptop worked fine in the same place as the TV. When I tried to contact Curry's I was told to ring Samsung direct to resolve any operating problems! Samsung informed me that I needed to update the software and they would send me a USB stick within 10 days. They offered no apology for the inconvenience.

I've spent ages trying to resolve this problem so pretty annoyed the TV wasn't supplied ready to use. Apart from this hassle the TV looks great and is easy to use.
