“"Fool me once shame on you - fool me twice shame on me"”

written by harryhound on 24/01/2013

For many years I owned two classic RH kettles - the little feet fell off and the elements lasted about 5 years, but I knew how to replace the elements which were pretty cheap.
Then came the jug kettle, standing on its own base plate and with a powerful induction heater, came along and the RH version, though expensive, seemed a well designed idiot proof interpretation of the concept.
Presumably needing two hands to fill through the lid is deliberate to prevent the lid being left open?

However the durability is unacceptable. The clever switching system that turns off manually, when heated by the latent heat of the steam and when lifted from the stand GOES WRONG:
1. Within weeks - replaced under warranty.
2. Within months - somehow mother in law snapped the switch - Replaced
3. Within two years - I don't know why - perhaps the electrical contact in the base has worn away? Once upon a time toasters were unreliable now its Russell Hobbs jug kettles !
