Agreed a car insurance policy with Budget and told them that I had 8 years no claims discount with 7 years proof. The eighth year was a company car which did not give you proof of no claims. I explained this to the customer service dept and the girl said this was not a problem but they would only accept the 7 years, which I was ok with. A few days later, after them taking the first instalment, I received a letter cancelling my policy due to the fact that I had originally claimed 8 years not 7 years no claims! (confused yet!!) So I rang their convoluted answer service, which infuriatingly kept sending me back to the beginning of the message where you have to enter your details!! Eventually I got through to someone who actually said the information I was given and that they could accept the 8 years, all they had to do was call the company. She then said that she would confirm this with the supervisor. Again, kept waiting on the phone, when she returned to me she apologised and said the info from her was also incorrect!!! and that they could NOT accept the 8 years, only the 7 (again of which I was ok with) (are you all still awake??) The only problem was, she said, was that I would have to cancel the original policy and set up a new one. So I said ok what would be the difference - she then said, only the premium which would be another £8 per month! I told her this was unacceptable, amongst other things, but they would not be moved into compromising or accommodating me. Their customer service is appalling, their phone system is infuriating and I would not touch them with a barge pole! ( unless it was to shove it somewhere small!!) They are not called Budget for nothing - I guess its the old adage 'you get what you pay for'!
