Recently suffered a burglary and settlement through Direct Line was vouchers with Currys or a far smaller cash settlement. You are financially forced to go with Currys in order to replace your items!
Vouchers were to be used to replace a TV, but John Lewis were selling the tv we were interested in (Samsung Series 6, 3D)at the same "sale" price as Currys only they were giving a 5 year warranty and not Currys 1 year warranty.
Therefore purchased a washing machine using the vouchers from Direct Line plus a £50 Currys voucher obtained after buying 3 replacement laptops. Experience at the till in the Stamford branch made Little Britain sketches look tame. If the cashier said to her colleague once "it can't be done" said it 20 times. Eventually purchase made (on 3/11/12)and delivery agreed for Sunday 11/11/12.
Washing machine arrived today with big dent in the front and the top has been knocked so it doesn't fit flush on one side. Spoke to manager at Stamford who was totally unapologetic and can not give a date for a replacement - it is not in stock. He just said it was the delivery people and awas not his responsibity. We were offered the store demonstration washing machine at full cost, but that was covered in sticky marks, stickers and the bottom had been knocked. I would hahve accepted it at a discount, but not at full price.
I can not even get my old washing machine repaired as that was taken away when the new one was delivered. No washing machine, no date for a resolution. To add insult to injury John Lewis have same washing machine in stock, 2 day delivery date and a 2 year warranty in place of Currys 1 year warranty.
Dealing with Currys has been about as traumatic as actually getting burgled. We have spent thousands of pounds in their stores. There should be new categories for Currys - zero star rating. Will phone their complaint line tomorrow but anticipate more "Little Britain".
