“Darlington Building Society - poor service, poor attitude”

written by on 12/10/2012

We have had our Mortgage with DBS for several years, in my opinion their staff have always appeared clue-less. Even a basic task such as paying our mortgage with cash in the branch seems to difficult for them, we have to repeatedly tell them the amount, they have to count several times, often miscounting and hardly ever know what change to give. We also often get nonsense (and incredibly long winded) letters referring wrongly to payments late or amounts incorrect, sometimes several from an arrears team who clearly look to make work even when what they are writing is incorrect (and they admit it on the phone but never write to correct or apologise.

Furthermore the DBS has strived to remove us (and friends we know) off low rate deals since the credit crunch, in my opinion being aggressive and unhelpful in doing so. Any slippage on payments and a letter comes from their legal team (a team with an email address of 'repo@.. I might add) and aggressive behaviour follows with what appear to be underhand and at times untruthful tactics to get us off deals and into agreements to try and gain something extra, whether it be increased interest or to get the property.

Once we are clear of our lock-in period we will move away from DBS and never go back, advising other to avoid them at all costs. In my opinion they are wholly incompetent with a poor respect for customers that runs right through the system.
