I have visited Alton Towers several times in past, most recent visit 19/08/10. Arrived at the park at approximately 10.15.
On arrival first thoughts: What sort of a place charges for parking these days, when you're already paying a substantial amount in entry fees? Also shouldn't this be stated in the Tickets and Prices section of the web-site rather than tucked away in the 'facilities' section where its hidden amongst info on baby changing and public phone info etc...
Between 11am and 3pm, we managed to get on 2 rides! This was due to excessive length of cues, which were often inaccurate as noted by previous reviewers Great stuff Alton Towers.
Food: poor selection, excessively priced, basically if it smells of stale chip fat it goes down well here.
Queues: Tedious, an hour for most rides. So despite Alton Towers boasting 'big thril' rides, you're probaly better of going to another theme park because unless you pay excessive amounts for queue jump tickets, you're not going to experience them.
Positives I would note are (when you actually get on them!) the rides are fun, also the staff were helpful (drinks machine swallowed our money in air queue, girl at desk was helpful with refund-it happens frequently from what we could make out!)
Overall, I would rate Alton Towers as very poor value for money. Yes the rides are good when you get to them but theoverall experience is what matters. I will not be back in a hurry and will not be recommending to friends anytime soon.
