“Scarabeo 500ie red riding in Greece”

written by Aries71 on 20/08/2012

I've bought a 2011 sparkling rubino rosso Scarabeo in April 2011 and I've been riding it so far, without any major complaints. The engine has torque and at everyday riding on a full fuel tank, can take me up to 220 kms. If you enjoy the quality in construction and the retro looks in a medium size 500cc scooter, that has big wheels and good driveability, both in urban and highway routes, then the Scarabeo is satisfactory. I use it for my everyday commute to work but I also take it to excursions outside Athens and it offers me a stable riding. When I'm the co-passenger, the suspension often hits me in bumpy roads, so in long distances I am wearing a protective belt, but in everyday use as a driver, it is comfortable enough on commuting though out the city. The brakes lack ABS, but with combined braking are satisfactory. The storage capacity is good, both underneath the seat and with the aid of an Aprilia top case which doesn't syncronize much with the steering wheel at high speeds above 100kms/hour.

I've reached 9000 kms at this point and the speedometer keeps running. The only problem I encountered soon after I bought it was the replacement of the ignition in 2000 kms in August 2011, since one day the engine refused to start because the ignition wasn't turning, so I had to take it to the dealership and ask for a replacement. I've also changed the tyres with Pirelli Diablo series, which offer a sporty feel and adequate driveablity both in low and high speeds, rain and shine.

As a conclusion, I bought Scarabeo for the nice price it had and the big wheel ride it offers and I will keep it, since it is lean enough to fit to city traffic but big enough to accomodate two riders on its saddle with a touring riding character. In addition it looks good and its design won't go out of style soon. So, if you're looking for an Italian classic, Scarabeo 500, offers a good option to ride with style on a dependable Master 500 engine!
