One would expect that if you have a pay monthly option with a telephone provider your voice mail would be free or at least if not free then deducted from your inclusive minutes.
Orange told me of a technicality they have when I called up last week to query why I have been billed on average £25 for calls to voice mail over the last 5 months.
Their response was that customers who switch to SIM only contracts are no longer deemed pay monthly customers and are charged to access voice mail akin to Pay as you go customers.
I think that argument is flawed - even fraudulent!
I had to pass a credit check to get my SIM only tariff and furthermore I am obliged to remain with them for 12 months. How am I not a contract customer?
For what it is worth, I did rant at OFCOM about this too.
The other thing that bugged me was that this information is not put in front of my face. I know it is my duty to scrutinise my bills but in this day and age of online banking and direct debit a lot of people just trust their company to charge them fairly.
This is an assumption I will not make again!
I also had the joy last week of being offered a bundle they had for under 24's which gives us an additional free call allowance. The lady forgot to tell me that in acceptance of that bundle my contract was renewed for 24 months!
