My wife & I are currently looking at taking over a catering business. Neither of us have worked in the food industry although many years ago my parents owned and ran a fish n chip shop. The law surrounding food has changed a lot in recent years and so the little I thought I knew was probably out dated and irrelevant in todays market place.
I hunted around the internet to find out about the food regulations and the law etc. I soon realised that my wife & I would need a level 2 food hygiene certificate. I looked at several online sites that offer the food hygiene course and eventually settled for the one offered by the safer food group. Why did I opt for this firm? Two reasons initially. Firstly price, they were the cheapest that I found. Second reason what would be printed on the certificate. I thought a certificate that had safer food handler writen on it sounded and looked much better to customers than Joe Bloggs get trained quick dot com or whatever the others are called.
Anyway I paid the £12 + VAT and started my course. Within the first few minutes I knew that this was going to be a worthwhile investment of my time & money. I have become used to doing online courses in my current job as I work for the NHS. Most of the online courses that I get to do for my job are a total waste of time and NHS money.
The level 2 food hygiene certificate course offered by the safer food group was well thought out and very well put together. Even for a complete novice such as myself the course explained everything and kept me interested. If my wife & I do take over the business we are looking at, this will be the course we shall use for our staff training. It is cheap, but above all it is very effective and informative. I'm not the quickest learner, but I started this course at lunchtime on a Sunday and five hours later I had a food hygiene certificate with a 100% pass
