“Gone downhill!”

written by on 06/08/2012

I feel that I know this company reasonably well, being that I was an employee of theirs for nearly 6 years, and since I stopped work there I can see the massive problems that now occur.

Comet were in great financial difficulty and as such I believe that many of their store staff that weren't salespeople were given the option to become salespeople or go. I was one of these members of staff ( I left before the financial troubles) and know how integral these people are to the running of the store. I understand comet's issues and their thinking that the more salespeople they have, perhaps the more sales they'll make, but........

I went into a local store on 21/7 to purchase a tv I'd seen online. I knew it wasn't in store so asked for them to order it ( this was after waiting over 15 minutes for someone to approach me, I had to go and ask someone for help). The salesperson was quite indifferent and was totally disinterested in the sale as soon as I rejected the offer for a £100 odd surge protector. He passed it on to a colleage who circled my collection date (27/7). the salesperson never took my phone number ( he should've as it was the policy in my store to ring customers when the orders were in and ready for collection).

Monday 30/7 I went to collect the tv to be told the tv wasn't there, but it would probably be there the next day. The same salesperson took my phone number and said he would call me the next day. Tuesday 31/7: no phonecall. not only that, but I had to tell the person who was dealing with me how to find my order in the collection part of comet's computer system. The admin staff would do this every day and as they've gone who is making sure the staff know how to do this?

Couldn't get to the store until Friday 3/8, got there to be told that my tv had been put out on display. Again this was such a pointer that non salespeople are missed. Warehouse staff at the store would take in stock and label it with a customer order ready for customers to collect. This obviously doesn't happen anymore. While I was waiting for them to find my tv a man was waiting to buy a kettle. He had it in his hand and waited or 10 minutes for someone to serve him, and ended up walking out without because he was being ignored. I know that the salespeople would've done this because they wouldn't have gained anything from this sale.

They apologised and offered me 10% off the tv (it had also gone down in price a bit). The salesperson at this time was a former colleague of mine who had transferred to this store and said it would be in on Sunday with the sock delivery and that he'd call me on my mobile. That was supposed to be yesterday . No phone call. I'm off there as soon as the rush hour traffic dies down to go and make my feelings known about the appalling customer service. I'm disgusted that this company who I used to work for, and enjoy working for has gone so downhill without key job roles.

I know times are tough Comet but you NEED these staff to ensure the survival of your business. The sales people can't do it.
