“Excellent service, lousy navigation”

Written on: 03/08/2012 by Richard1963

I rented a car in Bulgaria (Sofia) for 10 days from the Top Rent-A-Car company in july 2012.
The service by (the people of) the rental company was nothing short of perfect.
Delivery and pick-up were one time and especially liked the delivery at my hotel, the deliverer even paid the fee for the parking in front of the hotel, and picking up the car in front of the departure hall of the airport at an impossible hour.
The car itself was what I wanted (economy car with airco) and was very exeptable and is in need of a cosmetic update (lot of little scratches and small dents alround), but that you can expect with a car that has run over 60.000 km. But during the use of the car there were no problems whatsoever.
I have only one point of critisism and that is about the navigation device I rented with the car. The one I got was below standard. One-way streets were not recognized as well as pedestrian areas. The roadmap definitely needed an update, it send me through backroads where there were more recent roadsthat didn't show in the display. Also on more than one occasion the streetnumbering was (way) off.
I mentioned this to the person who picked up the car and was told that normally they rented out systems by Garmin, but at the moment of delivery these were not available and they borrowed a devise from another company.
All well, but when you rent a devise for €48,00 for 10 days you may expect it to work properly.
