“I had mine for 4 years. I had it featured in Fastford...”

written by spooj on 06/09/2007

Good Points
Its good points are its ability to deliver the goods when everyone around you is spending lots more,on fancier cars, this under dog will surprise a few people.
Part are easily obtained as it shares a vast majority leaving only an extra days wait for some more specific items, but all seem readily available. The engine and box are solid items and provided you treat that engine to a couple of oil changes per year,it will love you right back.

Bad Points
It can be juicy around town exclusively.Completely urban driving will mean 220 miles per tank. Whereas a motorway only will double that in returns. Some of the usual ford electric issues are relevant around the age of this sporting/mass production era,so expect a few gremlins from time to time.
Inspect the rear arches, battery tray, filler cap (on older models), for rust.
And finally, make sure you view several and bag a good one because there are some dogs lurking out there.

General Comments
I had mine for 4 years. I had it featured in Fastford magazine Feb 2005 halfway through my tinkering ownership.

I worked the engine to 171bhp and 158lbs torque which then put in into another league. You're passing ST170's and copper-s with relative ease. It appreciates a bit of lowering and a choice set of alloy wheels and then it begins to turn heads like it should have when Ford decided to "tone it down" shall we say.

It has full pedigree winning in rally competition under the careful control of Gwyndaf Evans, beating all the cars in its class. Its the sporting Ford many forgot because Ford, in its wisdom, decided to use the RS rapid spec kit on the lesser GTi.

This effectively made our RS2000's that bit more faceless and less special.

I would have one again without doubt and regret selling it to this day!
