“I have been happy with the software performance. I...”

written by Terminus on 31/01/2004

Good Points
1) Software finds lost files from deleted partitions.
2) File names are restored to original condition.
3) Easy to use

Bad Points
Terrible usage terms. Watch out! They will take your money, and if you don't finish the job in 48 hours after buying a quota of disk space, you are screwed!

General Comments
I have been happy with the software performance. I have a BIG problem with there terms of use (renting software) and the process for getting your money back from unused quota.

Here's what happened. After a hard drive failure, my second drive lost it's partition table. I didn't touch this drive and started downloading software to see if it could find my data. BinaryBiz's software found the lost files. You "rent" their software. You buy a quota from them to restore what they find (they find the files for free). I bought the quota (6GB, $125) and restored what I needed. I took my time selectivley restoring data, ultimatly finding it on other drives on my network. I had 4GB remaining on my quota. I took my time (multiple days) to do this. What I didn't realize was that BinaryBiz only gives you 48 hrs to restore your data! (terms of use at bottom of email receipt after you purchase). I didn't see the limitation after purchasing. Their software client does NOT warn you that your session will expire and you don't receive an email that the session will expire!!!!!! I am so upset. They charge you %20 fee to reactivate session. I tried 4 or 5 times to get Customer support to just refund my remaining quota, but they won't do it unless I spend additional $. If their software warned me, or if I received an email, I would have requested a refund almost immediately after using the product so I wouldn't be screwed. I'm now at the point that I want to file a complaint with BBB to complain about the lack of notification of session expiration (poor customer interface if you ask me, I wrote something for a bank that notified you of upcoming significant events like your bill due, and it really helps the customer).
