Jon was an extremely able and experienced instructor. Although it was a mixed bunch, most people in the group had a pretty good understanding of the film industry and what makes a good script. I had worried that we'd spend half of the short day mulling over screenwriting manuals that we'd all already read, but luckily Jon framed most of the well-known dos and don'ts of a screenplay in the context of writing the all-important report. Crucially, this course is not a guaranteed pass into the profession of script-reading. Industrial scripts will arm you with the tools for tackling that first script report, but the commission itself remains illusive.
