General Comments
I have only (5) air rifles and pistols and the Daisy Powerline 617x was my 3rd CO2 pistol purchase. I was first impressed with its feel and attractive design. I was then surprised by its ability to contain its CO2. NO LEAKS!! That was an impressive design feature considering the price.
The power is good. I compared it to a new Crosman PumpMaster 760brd that I purchased one day after my Daisy 617x. Surprisingly, it penetrated a piece of plywood equal to that of the 600fps Crosman rifle.
Unfortunately, I seem to have purchased one of those "inaccurate" 617x's! My pistol hits about 3" below what I aim at. I've read several reviews and some sights seem to be accurate out of the package, while others are off about 3"?
I bought this pistol from my local Wal-Mart for shooting roof rats that I discovered hiding in our palms ans avocado tree. The inaccuracy of this pistol forced me to buy a Crosman PumpMaster 760brd.
I accurately set the red dot scope in about 5 minutes and the rifle hits accurately everytime, even with a soft boar barrel. Unfortunately, I can not say the same for my Daisy 617x.
I purchased a generic trigger mounted laser sight for it and after some considerable custom engineering I was able to get it to compensate for the 3".
I have decided to keep it for finishing off the rats I have been successfuly shooting out of our trees. I also just purchased the Walther NightHawk to compare the Daisy too.
If anyone has experience with a Walther NightHawk, please let me know. As far as I understand it is the CPSport and while roughly 65fps less powerful than the Daisy 617x, it supposedly is more accurate. If thats the case than I can at least use that successfully to shoot rats at close range out of trees overhead.
I am looking forward to the stock mounted red-dot laser sight, mounted flashlight with compensator for the Walther.
If Daisy can design these accessories to mount to the 617X than I think we have a winner folks (for the price).
I will keep you updated on my discoveries with the weapons accuracy as time goes by and I actually hit a rat with this Daisy. I will also keep you posted on weather or not the Walther NightHawk is a worthy purchase.
