“You must beware 123 -reg when using PayPal”

written by markhickman16 on 25/06/2012

I bought a domain name which I chose not to have on auto renew, it was a .TV extension costing £41.99 per year. Instead I would wait for the reminder and decide then if I wanted to renew the domain.
I chose not to renew it, but because I had paid for it using Paypal, 123-reg could debit my account Paypal anyway...grrrr...and because it is not a tangible product, ie it was a Domain name, the transaction was not eligible for PayPal's Buyer Protection.

On top of this, even though I didn't get my £41.99 back from Paypal, 123 reg shut down my account, despite the fact that I had other domains operational on it, in effect denying me access to all of services including e-mail and holding all of my domain assets to ransom. Surely that's illegal.

I look at this as highly unethical practise and would strongly reccmment if you want a domain/e-mail service you use fasthost or go-daddy, just not this company.
