Man, it's a nightmare trying to get any information once in China. Only place to book stuff is over the net, and this web site has found some cheaper rooms than the tour company I used to use. Sino tour. who do great priced tours by the way and similar priced hotel link ups

There are a couple of good flight web sites from within China. But not sure if they're still around, you may find some when you get of at the airport.

My wife is in Beijing and the prices here are half price from best she could do.
