“Avis via Rentalcars.com at Murcia”

Written on: 16/06/2012 by Deltaman (1 review written)

Our first problem was finding the Avis agent who, we found by asking around, was OFF airport, which is a bad move for Rentalcars who did not advise this on booking the car!!! So a transit vehicle arrived marked "Budget Rentals" Well done Avis for providing weary travellers with the key information that they need to see, "AVIS"...

The car was a BMW mini ONE, which we have admired previously. The car had been cleaned but wiped over with a cloth and thus streaky. Not a good first impression.

Six gears......why....the only use for the sixth gear we could find was going downhill!!! Five would have been ample, four sufficient....

The ride was OK on smooth roads, but hard on any other, and road noise was very evident.
The engine was good, pulled like a train, and an amazing turn of speed was to be had..
The boot was unable to take our cabin baggage without a fight.

Provided running, our first problem was on restarting the car, as it would not start, and just an engine symbol appeared in the central console. This was the only symbol which did not appear in the manual!!!! much fiddling later we phoned the Avis agent. Apparently one has to depress the clutch before it will start. Simple, but why were we not told!!!!!!! We are English, the manual was in Spanish. Again well done Avis...

Not queueing at the airport was a bonus, and the ride to the agent was quickly completed, and we were on our way in shorter order than waiting at the airport would have given us!!

Overall a good rental which could have been improved with a bit more information, which costs next to nothing to implement.....
