Last payment made in April, Swinton attempted auto renew in May but not expected (was actually in the T's and C's)
Phoned to confirm that the insurance was paid off and complained about additional life ins, and breakdown cover?!!!! no idea about this free cover with auto renewal
Asked for assurance that the DD will not happen again as do not want this insurance cover after policy expires. Swinton agreed that it was okay to cancel the DD and would still recieve the NCD, received a letter 2 days later saying the DD has been cancelled and therefore the insurance would be cancelled and the car illegal to drive, contacted the broker and he confirmed it was an automatic letter and the payments had all been made, confirmed again that it has been cancelled - this was confirmed with Broker.
Received renewal notice with NCD on, and a what to do next section saying, if you wish to renew please call the bedford office on 01234 etc, if you do not want to renew you will be illegal after 12th june.
Got a call on the 8th to check that mind not changed about renewal, told them new car and new insurance.
Got a new set of policy documents today after a call they suggested no one had cancelled the renewal.
checked my bank account and they have re-established the DD, so cancelled that again and contacted the bank to request they block any DD requests or card payments.
1. it didn't state auto renewal, it said phone if you want to renew otherwise you will not be insured.

3. was told to show them the alternative insurance details
sent a complaint email to them, tomorrow I will be sending letters to the Financial ombudsman and the swinton head office.
I don't believe there is only phone correspondence, all calls are supposedly monitored.
I will not pay the £50 cancellation fee for something they should not have created, they have constantly agreed that this is not going to be renewed only on the phone though. I will call again tomorrow to request the head office personnel to complain to.
Perhaps check the phone bills to confirm dates and times I have called them.
SWINTON are appalling.
