“Scared to take it off”

written by on 13/06/2012

I'll be honest, I was really excited for my band to arrive in the post, even though I had so many reservations.

I've suffered from hayfever for the last 6/7 years. Never had it as a child. It developed just as my education was getting more intense (exam periods, essay deadlines, end of year celebrations). I wear contact lenses and as a female being seen with my glasses on and my eyes all puffy makes me a bit of a recluse and I just tend to avoid social events between May and September. I've given up on tablets prescribed by my GP, and nasal sprays and eye drops would line my handbag and take up precious room.

So I got my band. I'll admit, I'm not a small girl and it's tight. I wish they'd come in different sizes. It kind of feels like a tournicay most of the time. It rolls and starts digging in. But I don't want to stretch it because the whole idea is that there is pressure on your Qu Chi point. It's hard to know if this is right on the mark. I put a dot on the end of my elbow crease and lined it up perfectly. And ive just been wearing it. I even wore it to bed, because usually i wake up and my eyes are full of crusty weepy stuff where my eyes have been streaming all night. This wasn't the case thos morning. No itchy throat or sneezing.

I also walked the dog today. This usually triggers itching and sniffling. I end up coming back looking like some crazy addict- puffy red eyes and sniffing every 2 seconds. I live in rural Wales so it's usually a nightmare. And the poor dog doesn't get many walks because it's usually so unbearable.
The pollen has been low for the last few days and I don't know how I would be suffering normally if I didn't have the band on. But I just got out of the shower and during and afterwards I've had my first sneezing fit of the day. It's been off for about 20 minutes. I couldn't wait to dry off and get it back on

I guess that's what's hard about the band- how do you know if it's an improvement? We all have days when our hayfever is worse than others, and times when it flares up and calms down. But I'm going to keep at it and see if I can enjoy the rest of my summer.

All in all- my hayfever symptoms seem to have ceased. I don't know how or why or if it's related to the pollen count. But I'm telling everyone about this little band and how it seems to be working!!

A GOD SEND
