I have been an Orange PAYG customer for as long as mobile phones have been popular, around 20 years.
Lately I bought an android smartphone and within seconds of inserting my Orange SIM card £13.75 was 'sucked' from my balance by Orange. I hadn't accessed anythingon the phone at all. just switched it on. I complained and was advised to turn off the GPS on the phone. Instead of giving me a refund they gave me free texts and internet access for 1 month.
On my second attempt I made sure there was only £3.50 credit on my phone which was just as well because the same thing happened again. I complained again with no helpful response at all this time and no compensation at all.
I am now with Vodafone who do some good PAYG deals and also only charge £1 for 1 day internet access if you accidentally overspend on your deal.
If this is how Orange value their customers I can only think they will be losing a few more.
