“Not great tyres.”

written by drewzzr on 30/05/2012

BMW GT1300GT
BMW list BT021's as the recommended figment. the bike came with them on and I don't like them. They do a job, but they wear unevenly.
The grip is ok and they lasted 8000 miles but the first 25% -30% of the tyres life is spent getting used to the vauge feeling when initiating a bend, exit ramp or roundabout.
The last 25% -30% of the tyres life,
shows that the front wears alarmingly on the off side shoulder, which doesn't add up because the rear tire bears witness to heavier wear bias on the near side.
In summary, they grip ok in wet & dry, and last a while.
However, the wear characteristics will make you want to change earlier.
Both front and rear seem to have the same life.
I'm a smooth rider, 70% motorway & 30% back roads.
The softer, cornering tread area, cups badly, front & rear and the rear squares off, in such a way as to require a firm shove on the inside bar to tip her over and then a heart stopping, falling over sensation when committed.
I'm looking for something else.
The old BT020's were not great on my old Yamaha Fazer.
If the BT 023's are any better, let me know, please.
