Being unemployed I opted for a budget tyre on a jag, not ideal but nescessary under the circumstances. Paid online went to depot as agreed but only after spending 15 minutes on telephone with operater who told me they were out of stock only to then change her mind after trying to get me to buy a dearer tyre. Arrived at depot exchanged basic plesantries with fitters who informed me that they couldnt do the alignment and I need to go to the next town and see a different company. No further discussion and the tyres were fitted. The road noise from these tyres is unbelievable, sounds like i had four knackered wheel bearings and a whiny diff fitted at the same time such is the droning. So with just 20 miles on the tyre I call the depot and am told it is to be expected its a cheap tyre and thats that, ask if I can upgrade and am told its nothing to do with the depot as I purchased on line and its their decsion as they are just the fitting bay, but buy new tyres and sell those on ebay but in the meantime some of the noise will subside with wear. Almost mugged off for buying a cheap tyre get reminded its built for Pirrelli's etc. Next day ring online shop explain problem offer to sepnd more money, tyres done less than 50 miles. Told by operater "I will call the fitting bay". Unsurprisingly he tells me that the fitting bay say no because you have done more than 10 miles and he cant resell them, its thier decison, but hold on the fitting boys tell me its nothing to do with them as its an online purchase. Online man now telling me "oh no they sold you the tyres its thier decision" Also he tells me that the fitting boys advised me this was not a suitable tyre, this is a blatant lie, this only occured after the event when I called the day after and not before, there was barely any conversation before fitting. So the phone call goes between the online shop saying its the fitting shop decision and the fitting boys saying its the online shop. The advice, buy a new set of tyres of better quality, but hold on I have just explained that the only reason I bought budget was because I am unemployed and needs must so thats really helpful advice! The tyres still have the red markings on and have done sub 50 miles but the fitting shop boys say over the phone they are used and unsaleable, and so we go round in circles, but these are the same fitting boys who say its not thier decsion?
I fully understand there are comprimises in buying budget I am not stupid bvutg am treated as such, but if the tyre is unsuitable for the vehicle then should they sell it?
I will vote with my wallet, there are three cars in this household and none of them will see the inside of National tyres and I will make sure that I share my opinion on the service. An old sales fact is that a satisified customer tells only three to four people whereas a dissasitified customer tells on average ten people about thier experience, so guess what.
