Arrived in Madrid and my luggage didn't show up. Six day business meeting, and cold weather. Lufthansa personnel gave me some voucher and let me know they'd contact me on the next flight. Of course...no bag. I let them know that I had NO clothes, nothing. They gave me some piece of paper with an IOU written on it for x amount of dollars. They did all of this in front of a fairly high government official from Spain. That official promptly took me to a store to purchase a suit jacket, 2 pairs of slacks, 1 sweater, 3 pairs of socks, a belt, and one pair of dress shoes. The total was approximately $500.00 US. I purchased the cheapest stuff I could find at this store. My luggage never showed up during the entirety of my stay. Upon arriving at the airport for departure, I followed the instructions given to me by Lufthansa personnel and saw an agent. I was still accompanied by the Spanish official. A female German employee of Lufthansa refused to honor the IOU, and stated that they could only refund me something like $50.00US. We got into it, and she didn't care. The Spanish official made no headway either. I departed on my flight. My bag arrived at my home destination three weeks later. I have not, and will not, ever fly Lufthansa again, and have warned everyone I know about how discourteous and terrible this airline is.
