After a fairly long development process, I decided to submit a screenplay to Industrial Scripts in order to get an objective review and to determine whether it was worth persevering with (and it was an excuse to put off further work on the project for a bit!)
The feedback arrived within 10 days, which was perhaps faster than I’d hoped for, but very impressive considering the depth of the report which ran to 11 pages.
The report provided a general summary of the script, before providing more detailed notes on structure, character, premise, dialog and style – whew!
The report clearly identified the problem areas in my script and helped put me back in the position of the audience, which I found the single most valuable aspect of the review. In addition, the notes were largely instructive and insightful, rather than directive which I found very professional.
I’d say the report struck the right balance of encouragement and constructive criticism (at least for me) and I hope that I now have a more focused, polished product as a result of the feedback.
