Good Points
We took Aer Lingus from Shannon to Heathrow en route to connect with our flight home to Canada. My wife's first ever flight on Shamrock! As in the past, when I commuted on Aer Lingus in the 60s, it's still excellent.
They even managed to service the flight with the one Airbus A320 out of 22 in their fleet named after our son, Ciaran!
Bad Points
No direct service between Ireland and Canada!
As a result, no access to Shannon Duty Free!
General Comments
Aer Lingus management still won't service Canada, so we are forced to travel from Toronto via the UK or Amsterdam. For many Canadians, the Aer Lingus service via the USA is not an option due to US Immigration.
Canadian visitors to Ireland are never documented as such when they fly via the UK. Therefore the real number is much higher than reported.
Travellers from Canada to Ireland are generally not through ticketed and as such are not counted. In fact Canadian visitors actually help to falsely inflate Aer Lingus' UK traffic numbers!
Aer Lingus pulled out of Canada in the late 1960s when they were only allowed into Montreal, YUL.
Canadians want an EI service to YYZ!
