“Appalling aftercare, Rude, Dishonest”

Visited Braintree Freeport store to purchase 2 cameras. When they know a sale is on the cards they can't do enough for you, the salesman was very helpful explaining the differences of the various models. I bought a camera much more expensive than I normally would and agreed to pay for the extended warranty as he said if the camera developed any kind of fault they would swap it without any fuss. Well that turns out to be a total lie just to sell the warranty as I assume they get commission. I used the camera perfectly for one day, the next day it developed a fault. We were away at the time but I took the camera back to the store when we returned which was 30 days after the original purchase. Arriving at the store all the available staff were laughing and joking in the middle of the store and didn't acknowledge me at all even though it was obvious I wanted to speak to someone. When they eventually decided to help the man was extremely rude and dismissive of the problem and eventually said ok I'll send it for repair. I said I wasn't happy with this a the product was obviously factory faulty and that when I had checked with the local trading standards they said anything going wrong within 6 weeks is assumed factory faulty and you are entitled to a replacement. In the end I had to ask for the manager (who turned out to be one of the people who had ignored me when I came in)and I also had to raise my voice and cause a fuss which I hate doing but seems the only way to ensure your rights are upheld. When they finally swapped the camera the man was very condescending trying to say he had done me a great favour and it was my own fault for not using the camera more often before we went away. I was going to buy a couple of laptops for the children and a new tv but I certainly won't be getting them from Comet.
