“Dirty Expensive Avoid”

Written on: 09/04/2012 by GyminyCricket (1 review written)

I've been a member of Total Fitness on and off for about 10 years and the price has slowly increased. But with that increase I have seen no investment (which I was advised to expect with my last annual increment). Total Fitness, in particular the Prenton branch, is always filthy - constantly training amongst other peoples finger nails, old drinks bottles, thick dust and grime. I'm amazed at how poorly maintained the place is in general. When it rains the car park floods, the cardio equipment is at least 50% out of order 100% of the time, free weights (dumbbells and plates) are damaged or not in full sets, poorly marked or labelled etc making the simplest task of putting a disc on a barbell frustrating and tedious! I stopped using the changing rooms, showers, pool and hydro area some time ago after noticing under wear left for over a week on the floor, mold and mildew in the showers etc.

All this for a monthly cost of just under £45. Is it too much for the staff to do there job and clean - as they're rarely about on the gym floor being gym 'instructors'. I can't really blame the staff though. if the company isn't investing money in its facilities and equipment then it's highly unlikely that they are investing anything in their staff.

I have today left and gone to a gym costing half the price but every piece of kit works and, most importantly, it is CLEAN!!

If you are considering joining Total Fitness then DON'T! Avoid it and find the next nearest gym, pay more if you have to, but do not be drawn in my the patter from the membership office.
