I had three interviews for temp roles lined up over the coming few days. I suddenly got a call from Reed regarding a data entry position I'd applied for, it seems they're desperate and I'm offered the job to start the very next day on the basis of my CV. All I need to do is come in and register. I drop everything and travel 40 miles to hand my passport over. The consultant can't tell me anything about the job apart from the fact it's 50p an hour less than advertised on their own website. I arrive and the job is just standard data entry, no big shock there, I'm a bit surprised to find out that breaks are banned in this (large very famous) company for temp staff but I need the money so don't make an issue out of it. End of the week my time sheet log in details haven't arrived, after dozens of emails I call them and speak to a bored semi friendly consultant,Reed still insist they've sent it, they finally agree to send it to my supervisor. Finally I can log in and submit my hours! Hang on...the wage has gone down to minimum, my DOB, NI number AND address are wrong! I correct all this and bang off an email about the wage decrease, it takes them two days to reply and then it's a sulky excuse that it was a "mistake" course it was Reed!
After 2.5 weeks in this rather shoddy company plodding along doing data entry with no issues whatsoever one evening at ten past five I get an email from Matthew Telling at Reed to tell me I've been sacked as apparently my quality was bad! Erm..no it wasn't! I immediately make a complaint to the company's senior management and raise some serious issues regarding the place. An independent investigation is now taking place. Since that evening I have heard literally nothing from Reed! I had an initial email from Matthew Reed asking if I'd like to be considered for further work, obviously I would! I ask whether this will be an issue and make a few further queries-and receive nothing in reply! I've sent several follow emails and am still being ignored, sadly there is no real regulation of recruitment agencies in the UK and very few jobs so they can get away with this kind of behaviour. One day the economy will turn and we'll get a Government that cares about working people. When that happens companies like Reed will be in for a major shock!
