“Guniea pig 10weeks old dead after 7 days from pets at home”

Written on: 23/03/2012 by thesorceress (1 review written)

On the 14th of march 2012 my boyfriend and i went to our local pets at home at fort kinnard edinburgh as my boyfriend wanted to buy me 2 guniea pigs for my birthday. So we headed in and i picked my 2 piggies 1 was a black and white 1 which we named vex and the other was a brown and black 1 which we called aela. Now when we handled aela she was very thin and she look like she had a rats head.Idid ask the asst why she was that thin and he said she was alright because she had a health check now for anyone that has cavys(Guniea pigs)they will know that a guniea pig should have a nice rounded face.My baby guniea pigs are only 10weeks old so we bought the two of them as they were on a deal 2 guniea pigs for £30.We brought them home and let them settle in evrything was going well my 2 adult piggies got on really well with the young ones. Then happiness was short lived as on my birthday 21st of march my baby aela started having diorrea and lying huddled up in the corner of her tank.So i phoned pets at home to tell them whats happening and they told me to take her to a vet i was expecting them to say bring her into the shop and we will get our vet to check her over but oh no.SO We took aela to our vet and when we got there the vet took her out of her little box and turned her round to have a look at her bottom and when she did i nearly colappsed my little baby was bleeding badly from the bottom. The vet told me that my baby would have to stay over night so i signed the consent form.By this time i was upset couldnt stop crying the vet said it was serious. We came home me and my boyfriend were really upset then the boomshell came at exactly at 9.30pm the phone rung it was the vet telling me that my baby aela had past away i was hysterical my baby was dead.In the morning after i phoned pets at home again and spoke to the manager explaining what had happened she told me that she was sorry for our loss and that pets at home would pay for any vet bills i told her that wasnt a issuse i also told her that i still had her sister which by this time was pinning for her sister the manager told me to bring her back and put her in for adoption i was angry that they even said that so i told her that my pet is not a backpack a pet is for life so at the end off the call she said she would refund us but that wasnt the point we didnt care about the money.I now have confirmation from the vet that our baby had septicimea and it had been with her since she was born and its took till now to appear but the vet did say if they checked on the animal while in the care of the shop they would have been able to do something about it.The staff claim to have knoelegde of these little creatures if thats so why did the alarm bells not start ringing when they saw a thin guniea pig.I wish there was a happy ending but theres not i lost baby last night and buried her today and most of all the other baby has lost a sister. My advice to anyone going for a pet DO NOT BUY FROM PETS AT HOME.
