I placed an order for home delivery on a date when I would be at home to receive the item. I left a mobile number when I placed the order and was told delivery would be any time between 8am-8pm. Not ideal but I've come to expect this from most home delivery companies. At 8pm when still not delivered and no details updated on my order tracking, I called Argos to be told the driver had tried to deliver it at 9.30 but had no access to the property so it had gone back to the warehouse. The buzzer at the gate comes through to the home phone & was in full working order for the other delivery I received that morning and no attempt was made to contact me on the mobile number I provided. The tracking on the website was also not updated. Best part of a day wasted
A second attempt for delivery was made - again a week day only which meant taking another unpaid day off work to ensure they could have access to the property. I asked them to make sure they sent my mobile number to the delivery company so they could get in touch if any issues. At midday I opened the front door to find a box on my doorstep from Argos direct. No buzz from the gate, no knock on the door and no call to my mobile - so they obviously have no problem accessing the property! However this time there seemed to be a problem with counting...to two. I was left with box 2 of 2, no sign of box 1.
When I called the help desk again, they were again very apologetic and assured me I would be refunded for my delivery charges. And they would rebook the delivery for the following Monday. I could not be at home to sign for this but evidently they have no issue acessing the property so this shouldn't be a problem. But somehow I was not surprised to find the package was not delivered when I got home after 8pm. Third time still not lucky!
When I called Argos again (again on a premium rate number) they were again very sorry and could not explain why it hadn't been redelivered. They seemded to suggest the label must have come off of box 1 and so it didn't even get sent out for redelivery. The only thing they could do would be to send both boxes out again, and I could accept the one I need & refuse the other. However, since I have no faith in them managing to bring any boxes, let alone the right one, I refused this option and asked for a refund. They would have to collect the item and when it reached teh warehouse, my refund would be processed. Alternatively, I could go to my local store to pick up the box or to return the one I have for a refund. Hmmm if I could do that I would have just done that in the first place wouldn't I - instead of paying delivery charges and missing days from work!?!
I left the box on the doorstep with a signed note for Argos Direct to pick up as advised. I received a call on my mobile at midday from Argos to say the driver had tried to pick it up but it was not there. Very strange - had it been stolen, had a neighbour taken it in thinking it had been deliverd? No, it was still there when I got home - they were as good at picking up as they were at delivering.
Second attempt at pick-up is today - let's see if they manage it. I obviously don't have high expectations. This will be the 5th time they should have come to the property and so far one of two items delivered and none collected.
I would very much like my money back at this stage sinnce Argos have had it for 3.5 weeks and I have received nothing for it. I have also missed to paid days work due to their random problems accessing the property.
I have placed several orders for delivery to this property from Amazon Marketplace and had no issues with getting the items, and I have even received a previous order with Argos wih no issues. I have no idea why this has been such a problem but will not be ordering through them agaon or their affilaites Homebase etc, since they obviously have an issue with delivering to my area - or in general.
I would not recommend.
