This was a 60th surprise birthday present for my partner - lunch at the airfield followed by a micro-light flight. Unfortunately, the day was a disaster! The flight was cancelled due to inclement weather and the lunch was dreadful! The description of lunch at the airfield led me to believe it would be a rather special experience - it wasn't. I can honestly say I have had better meals at roadside truck stops.
Our second attempt at the flight was much better - it was early morning so we didn't need lunch! My partner was blown away by the experience. He couldn't praise his lady pilot highly enough. The only negative comment I would make was about the airfield in general. Apart from the mediocre food, the attitude of some of the staff and the facilities leave a lot to be desired. we were almost the first people to arrive that morning and sat ourselves in the cafe. A man approached us and rudely told us to leave the cafe as it wasn't open for another half hour! We were gobsmacked. If you are being offered an early flight and you have driven 20 miles to get there, the very least you might expect is an open cafe and a friendly welcome. After that we were kept waiting for quite some time without knowing what was happening. We decided then that we wouldn't return to this airfield if we were to repeat the experience in the future.
I would say that overall the experience was exactly what I paid for - a wonderful flight with a friendly, skilled and knowledgable pilot.
