So, where to start.
The car wasn't the class booked (we booked a clio, it was an i10, considerably smaller).
The car was filthy and had a third of a tank of petrol (about 15 quid). We were told to bring it back empty.
When we took it back no one was "aware" of our return date, so they "couldn't" book it in. They deigned to take the keys of us, but only grumpily and after much argument agreed to drive us back to the airport terminal (something we had been told would happen).
After we got back, easirent re-debited my credit card for the same amount as the rental. When contacted they said that this was a mistake and it would be recredited. It never was.
Eventually we got in touch with holidayautos who the car he been booked through and paid for in full. They in turn got in touch with easirent who now claimed that the £70 fee was to cover the petrol in the car and the damage waiver insurance (which we had specifically declined because I have an annual policy).
I then contacted easirent again, and they now claim that they "had to" take the excess insurance because the pre-auth on my card for the £750 excess was declined. I can think of no reason why this would have been the case, and the fact that easirent made no attempt to contact me (they claim they did, but, well... I have a mobile. It works...) about this (so that I could have given them another card) or even *inform* me of this fee makes me think that it is nothing more than a scam.
I rent cars regularly but have never been ripped off like this.
In a nutshell, avoid easirent like the plague.
