I received a phone call from a woman at Swinton offering me a 3 month free period of breakdown cover which I decided to agree to. She stated that I could cancel this policy at anytime during those 3 months and if it were cancelled before the renewal date then I would not be charged any fee whatsoever. In January 2012, before the 3 months period was up, I cancelled my policy and I received written confirmation of this.
Upon speaking to my bank in February 2012, they bought it to my attention that I still had a direct debit in place for Swinton. I immediately rang Swinton and stated that I had cancelled my policy in January so why is it still in place. The person on the phone assured me that the policy and direct debit had been cancelled and that I would not be charged.
Then, two months later i find out that I am still being charged for a separate Personal Cover policy which was set up at the same time of the breakdown policy. I received no separate paperwork for this policy and was never told by Swintons staff that there was an additional policy in place when I cancelled everything. I'm still trying to get a refund but they are being very awkward. Asked to speak to a manager on the phone on several occasions and they are always busy and they advise me to send them a letter instead.
Swinton is a terrible company and I will never use their services again. Don't use swinton! They are a bunch of con artists and deceitful liars.
