“Mtx125r & Mtx200r”

written by Lynxxx on 05/03/2012

I have had my Mtx125r for 2 years now, it is a great runner and has only let me down a few times. The first was due to the clown owning it before and putting the wrong spark plug in and even after it seized the piston I beat it down with a piece of wood and a hammer and it run again (no new piston/rings or cylinder work !!!) so i have thought of a list of good and bad points for the mtx.

Good - Reliable engine, good handling, great off-road (with the right tyres), plenty of power after tuning it, brakes are good, headlight is really bright for stock, good fuel mileage, some parts are very cheap & comfortable.

Bad - 2nd gear is terrible (it breaks allot) and the parts are hard to acquire, the water pump is known to break too and parts are hard to get & its quite sluggish stock next to a kmx or dt.

Now after owning it half a year and tuning just about everything i could (i even fitted the ATAC power valve), I bought a Mtx200 engine & expansion. BEST UPGRADE EVER!! totally transformed the bike with its new 200cc engine it had so much power it would wheelie in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear without even wanting the front wheel to come up. It now blasts by any other 125 other than a NSR or RS, And a new lovely top speed of 70mph with stock sprockets and 90-100mph with MBX125 sprockets.

I am considering buying new plastics and re-doing my mtx this year, I love it that much ! I am also going to put super-motard wheels on it and full disk brakes. I have HID kit at the moment and it is so bright when you are behind someone the headlight goes through the cars windows and onto the road in front of the car.

To sum up, if you are planning on buying a MTX, check to make sure 2nd gear works and that the oil is not milky in the gearbox OR it leaks water. If it does any of this crap DO NOT buy it unless it is under 200 pounds. If all this is ok, then you have a bike that wont cause you any maintenance other than tyres, 2 stroke oil & chains/sprockets, But hey that's expected from any 2 stroke bike.

If anyone would like to know how to tune their MTX feel free to email me [email protected]
